Confirmed federal conviction

Conspiracy to commit wire fraud

The U.S. Attorney's Office reported that Paul Eugene Prewitt, then 44 and most recently of Phoenix, pleaded guilty in May 2014 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. On October 20, 2014, U.S. District Judge Reed C. O'Connor imposed the statutory maximum sentence of 60 months, ordered $242,250 in restitution, and remanded him into custody.

Admitted conduct

According to the government's account, the scheme ran from February 2009 through at least 2012. Prewitt presented false investment opportunities to an elderly Wichita Falls couple, including a Utah condominium project that did not exist.

Financial harm

The couple transferred all of their retirement savings. Prewitt admitted that he did not invest the funds and instead used the money for personal expenses.

Identity assessment

Why the identity match is strong

The match does not depend on user-supplied phone numbers or email addresses. It rests on several independent public anchors that converge on the same person.

  1. Exact full name and geographyThe federal record names Paul Eugene Prewitt and identifies Phoenix as his most recent location.
  2. First-party employer videoUS LBM Communications identifies Paul Prewitt as Director of Sales for its Phoenix Metro Market.
  3. First-person acknowledgmentIn that video, he says he served 40 months in federal prison, calls himself a felon, and gives federal register number 25005-408.

Additional record checks

What was—and was not—found

No second conviction was found that could be responsibly attributed to this individual. That is a bounded research result, not proof that no other record exists.

No match returned

Maricopa County

Name searches of the current criminal case database and its linked archive returned no match. Those interfaces do not cover every Arizona court or every historical, sealed, or excluded matter.

Verification gap

Arizona statewide portal

The portal reports coverage of 177 of 184 courts but requires a generated verification challenge. That challenge was not bypassed, leaving a statewide-search gap.
